Here are three methods for preparing brown rice:

Stovetop Method:

  • Rinse the brown rice in a fine mesh colander under running water to remove excess starch.

  • In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of brown rice with 6 cups of water (or broth) and optionally add 1 tablespoon of butter and/or ½ teaspoon of salt for flavor.

  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 45 minutes (for medium and long-grain brown rice) or 40 minutes (for short-grain brown rice).

  • After cooking, let the rice rest for 10 minutes, then fluff it with a fork and serve.

Instant Pot Method:

  • Rinse the brown rice under cool, running water.

  • In the Instant Pot, combine the rinsed rice with water (using the same water-to-rice ratio as above).

  • Cook on high pressure for 22 minutes, followed by a natural release for 10 minutes.

  • Fluff the rice with a fork and serve.

Rice Cooker Method:

  • Rinse the brown rice.

  • Add the rice and water (using the same ratio) to the rice cooker.

  • Follow the rice cooker’s instructions for cooking brown rice.

Remember, the basic ratio is 1-part brown rice to 6 parts waters, which yields approximately 3 parts cooked rice. Adjust the quantities as needed. Enjoy your perfectly cooked brown rice! 🍚👌
